The Zambia Institute of Natural Medicine and Research was established as a non Governmental not for profit organization, registered under section 7(1) of societies act of the laws of Zambia in 2005. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2009 sent Dr. Ossy Kasilo to come to Zambia as part of the program to carry out a quick Survey on the development of traditional medicine in the AFRO region.

WHO has been encouraging countries to integrate traditional medicine in their healthcare system. Dr. Kasilo in her report, made a recommendation for ZINARE to become a full foraged University as part of the effort to promote integration. As a follow up on WHO report, in 2014 Zinare University was incorporated to serve as Africa’s power house for integrative medicine.

ZINARE runs a School of Integrative medicine and Health Sciences as the main cornerstone of the institution. Other Schools have been added to support the mission and vision of ZINARE. Zinare is also proud to be the first Institution of learning to introduce Integrative Communnity Health Care course in Africa to train Integrative Community Health Assistants.

The Zambia Institute of Natural Medicine and Research has continued to serve as a center of Excellency in research in Naturopathic and Integrative medicine and to ensure quality control on the use of natural medicine.


ZINARE is committed to being the professions institute in Zambia, producing Excellency in naturopathic and integrative medical education, research and become a strong partner in graduating students in other relevant fields that contribute to economical growth.


ZINARE has a Memorundum of Understanding with the Ministry of Health
to promote naturopathic medical education, allied professions and clinical practice.
